Domestic Abuse Help & Legal Advice: Nelson & Burnley

Domestic abuse is physical, sexual, psychological, emotional and financial abuse that takes place within an intimate or family type relationship and that forms a pattern of forceful controlling behaviour.

At least two women every week are killed by their current or ex-partner and at least one in four women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. How widespread such abuse is can be seen from the fact that the police receive one domestic violence phone call every minute in the UK yet only half of all incidents are reported to them.

Men also suffer from domestic abuse however there are not as many statistics available as this abuse has only recently become more widely publicised.

We have a wealth of experience in the careful handling of situations where there is domestic abuse. We understand that it is difficult to admit to someone else that you are suffering from such abuse and that it may have taken years for you to find the courage to break away from an abusive relationship.
